Redefining Success: Why Self-Care for Women of Color Is a Non-Negotiable
Share
For far too long, success has been defined by how much we hustle. How hard we push. How much we produce, perform, and sacrifice. Especially for women of color, the world has expected us to carry the load, power through exhaustion, and wear burnout like a badge of honor.
But what if success looked different?
I’m honored to be featured in Hope + Wellth magazine as one of 25 extraordinary women of color who are flipping the script on what it means to thrive. We are entrepreneurs, wellness leaders, therapists, attorneys, financial experts, doctors, venture capitalists, and creatives—each building powerful legacies without sacrificing our mental health and wellness.
In this special feature, we each share what success looks like for us. Spoiler alert: it’s not hustle at all costs.
For me, success is simple and powerful:
✔ Creating African botanical skincare that helps women with dry, sensitive skin feel moisturized, healthy, and confident.
✔ Caring for my family and myself, without feeling guilty for needing rest.
✔ Leading my business with intention, so that my purpose never feels like a prison.
When my skin feels tight, dry, or irritated, I reach for my Eczema Butter—not just because it works, but because it reminds me to pause and nurture myself. That’s what success feels like. Self-care in action.
Why Self-Care for Women of Color Matters
For Black women entrepreneurs and leaders, taking care of ourselves is a radical act. We are often the first to care for others and the last to care for ourselves. But the truth is, wellness leadership starts with us.
Self-care is not a luxury. It’s a non-negotiable.
Without it, burnout steals our joy. With it, we lead better, love harder, and create more lasting impact.
I’m beyond grateful to stand alongside these brilliant women in Hope + Wellth who are choosing wholeness over hustle and purpose over pressure.
If you’re a woman of color navigating entrepreneurship, leadership, or simply life itself—I hope you give yourself permission to rest, breathe, and care for your body and soul.
You can thrive and protect your peace.
