With the holidays fast upon us, there will be plenty of get-togethers and holiday parties to keep your social calendar full. You’ll shop for the perfect outfit, the oh-so cute shoes, and accessories. You’ll schedule an appointment for hair and makeup.

Everything is set to go like clockwork until you get the dreaded pimple. N-O-O-O-O! Of all times, your hormones want to betray you and rear their ugly head front-and-center on your face.

Don’t panic and break out the harsh drugstore chemicals. Below are a few DIY face masks that you can make at home to detox and cleanse your pores.

The Cleopatra: Milk and Honey Face Mask

Ingredients:

1 Tablespoon full fat milk

1 Tablespoon raw honey

Rubber spatula

Mixing bowl

Mix the milk (antimicrobial, natural alpha-hydroxy acid to destroy dead skin cells) and raw honey (antimicrobial, antibacterial, moisturizing, humectant, fights acne, nourishes aging skin, gives skin a glow) in a mixing bowl until well mixed. Using your hands, apply mixture over entire face avoiding sensitive areas around your eyes, nose, and mouth. Keep applying layers until you achieve the desired thickness. Let the mixture sit on your face for 10 to 15 minutes. The mixture will seep into your pores and clean them out. Using a warm, damp washcloth, gently massage the mixture in a circular motion to remove from your skin. Gently pat your face dry with a soft towel. Follow up with one to two drops of an oil moisturizer like jojoba oil or extra virgin olive oil.

Lava Love: Bentonite Clay Face Mask

Ingredients:

1 Tablespoon Bentonite Clay

1-2 Tablespoons distilled or boiled and cooled water

Rubber spatula*

Glass mixing bowl*

*Never use metal bowls or utensils when working with Bentonite Clay because it will lessen the clay’s effectiveness.

Slowly add water to Bentonite Clay (detoxifies, cleanses pores and removes impurities) until you’ve reached a paste-like consistency. Using your hands, gently apply the mixture to your face. Avoid sensitive areas around your eyes, nose, and mouth. Let it harden on your face for 20 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. Pat your face dry with a soft towel. Apply one to two drops of a natural oil moisturizer like jojoba oil or extra virgin olive oil.

Pumpkin Pie: Pumpkin Face Mask

Ingredients:

1 teaspoon pumpkin puree (fresh, canned, or carton with no added ingredients)

1 teaspoon raw honey

½ teaspoon Bentonite Clay

Rubber spatula*

Glass mixing bowl*

*Never use metal bowls or utensils when working with Bentonite Clay because it will lessen the clay’s effectiveness.

Mix pumpkin puree (contains vitamins A and C, zinc, and antioxidants), raw honey, and Bentonite Clay in a glass mixing bowl. Using your hands, gently massage the mixture on your face. Let the mixture sit on your face for 20 minutes. Wash your face with a warm, damp washcloth. Follow up with one to two drops of a natural oil moisturizer like jojoba oil or extra virgin olive oil.

You can use these face masks once a week. If you treat your skin right, your skin will help you put your best holiday face forward. Have a happy, healthy and glowing holiday.
