The culprits include: relaxers (lye and no-lye), hot oil treatments, leave-in conditioners, anti-frizz/polish, root stimulator, and hair lotion.
These products have endocrine-disrupting chemicals like phthalates, phenols, parabens, synthetic fragrances, and more.
These chemicals, particularly in relaxers and hair oil, are associated with higher incidences of hormone-mediated diseases like fibroids and increased risk of breast cancer. They're also linked to a higher prevalence of asthma.

To add insult to injury, many of the chemicals were not listed on the product label. It's important that you educate yourself about harmful chemicals in your hair care products and scrutinize the labels carefully. When in doubt, look for natural, botanical ingredients.
